The Importance of a Pain-Free Life

4.5 minute read

Pain is coming for you!! Maybe it’s from a sports injury, age-related wear and tear or simply weakness that has crept in over time, there is no way around it; we all experience pain at some point!

So the less time you spend in pain, the better!!

I know this firsthand! At one point I felt so helpless that it’s hard to express. I felt  useless. Like a burden to my family. There’s nothing worse than feeling incapable. I was unable to do the most basic tasks, like walking downstairs or making a cup of coffee without pain getting in the way.

As a man, I wanted to be that strong, capable presence for my wife and kids. I wanted them to look at me like I could do anything - lift the heavy stuff, protect our family, carry the burdens of life… instead I heard things like “Don’t pick up the laundry basket, you’ll hurt your back” or “Do you need help with your socks?”

The only thing worse than the pain in my back and leg was the pain in my heart - not even exaggerating!! The suffocating sensation in my chest when I heard these things crushed my soul with embarrassment, even though it felt out of my hands to end up that way.

But there is good news!! I’m now completely pain-free and loving life!

I will choose this feeling every second of every day over being in pain. That’s why I’ve made it my mission to share what I’ve learnt f with anyone who feels trapped in their own body.

Awful dramatic aren’t I!

But think about it, when your nose is blocked, all you can dream of is being able to breathe freely again. When you have a headache all you want is relief so you can think clearly. Existing is hard enough without discomfort or pain, and so many of us choose to just… live with it. To just.. Put up with it.

Let me ask you:

How many times have you said you can’t do something because of a pain or an old injury?

How often have you blamed your age or lack of strength for not even trying?

What opportunities have you missed out on? What new hobbies or experiences have you passed up, because you didn’t feel capable?
Okay, let’s imagine this… If you could wake up tomorrow morning in a young, athletic body, no limitations and you can do ANYTHING - what would you do?? Would you live your life the same way you have done?

Me? I made changes to my own body and I can absolutely tell you right now, if I could go back in time and shake myself silly, I would!! EVERYTHING that happened to me was either avoidable or would have been easier to manage if I had the attitude I do now.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but only if you use it!

It’s NEVER too late to learn from past mistakes, and you CAN make a difference to your body at any age!!

Everyday I get to speak to people all over the world who are overcoming injuries and doing incredible things! Things you would have thought impossible if you knew where they started or what they’ve been through! They are truly inspirations and I’m incredibly lucky to be surrounded by such amazing people!
On the other hand, when the  people around you accidentally trap you in a negative state by saying things like “Well, you’re getting old” and “You need to be more careful” or “You’re just unlucky” that mindset can keep you in a ‘comfortable’ place of not bothering to try & change, because you were simply dealt a bad hand and have to accept it.

I want to tell you that you CAN change the hand you’ve been dealt. Sure you might not get royal flush, but you could get a full house, or a straight - and it’s a damn sight better than your current pair of twos.

You can always learn more about how to improve how you move and feel. I've been doing this for more than 10 years now and I’m still learning through others just how much your mind can be a powerful driving force to working through the craziest of things.

So here’s my challenge to you: don’t just say “Yeah, I should probably work on my body’s flexibility and stuff” and do nothing

Get specific, make it trackable, define your goals:

  • I want to touch my toes with straight legs

  • I want to get up and down off the floor without using my hands

  • I want to do a pull up

  • I want to lift X amount of weight

Don’t be flippant about your goals, saying “I want to be stronger” is wishy-washy, WHAT DOES THAT ACTUALLY MEAN TO YOU?

Define it, chase it, then, once you achieve it, move the goalposts! Set a new one!! Don’t stop and keep pushing the bar higher!!

You already have the tools to change the way you feel, you just need to learn how to use them.

If you want to know what I deem the essential stuff then I suggest starting with my life changing program The Simplistic Mobility Method. It’s your gateway to a stronger, more flexible version of you!

Or as I like to say, a more Flong & Sexible you!
